What is the “How to Fold a Towel” workshop?
The workshop uses the simple task of folding a towel to demonstrate how  instructions, communication, expectations, and systems impact results.

Why a towel?
Folding a towel seems simple, but when people are given the same task with unclear instructions, the results can vary widely. This exercise reveals how miscommunication, unclear expectations, and lack of structure affect everyday operations.

Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is ideal for:

  • Leadership teams
  • Staff and operational teams
  • Community organizations
  • Business owners and managers
  • Groups focused on improving communication and teamwork

What will participants learn?
Participants explore:

  • How misaligned instructions and unspoken assumptions quietly create chaos in even the simplest tasks
  • The difference between individual effort and true team alignment — and why most businesses struggle with the latter
  • How to identify hidden “leaks” in your operations through observable signals
  • The A.S.S.I.S.T. framework — a practical system for turning confusion into clarity and ownership.

    How long is the workshop?
The workshop typically lasts 45 minutes, but it can be shortened to 30 minutes or extended up to 90 minutes.

    Is the workshop interactive?
Yes. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, discussion, and reflection throughout the session.

Is this only about folding towels?
No. The towel is simply the exercise used to uncover larger lessons about leadership, communication, operations, and expectations.

Can this workshop be customized for our organization?
Yes. The workshop can be tailored to address specific organizational challenges, team dynamics, or operational goals.

Is the workshop available in-person or virtual?
Both options are available depending on the needs of the organization hosting the session.

In-person: All materials needed for the activity will be provided by a Britt Assist team member.

Virtual: a pencil or pen, and a journal or notepad.
